Finding New Joy in the Day

Gail’s SAD Story

I have been a participant in the winter blues for years without even knowing there was such a thing. I thought the lack of energy, the “down” feeling, the “I am not a morning person” feeling, especially in the late fall and winter, was normal.

The dark, the dreary and the warm shinning sun are just part of the seasons being what they are in the temperate zone. I figured that will power, a change of attitude and getting on with the day was the way to go.

I met Marsha and began to learn what SAD is. She introduced me to the light box and validated the fact that there is such a condition. Using the light box at least 15 minutes every morning lifts my barrier to the beginning of the day and provides me with a calm and increased energy level.

My discipline is to USE it. With Marsha’s help, I figured out some creative ways. My portable, battery-charged light moves with me as I prepare for the day, make coffee, eat breakfast, brush my teeth, or sit quietly in front of it, centering and planning.

Marsha is a knowledgeable resource and I am learning more about this condition and how to deal with it. I am now finding joy in the new day rather than dread.
